ABOUT US

Our Centre

What makes us different?

We provide excellent childcare and education in a friendly relaxed environment and focus on working with families to provide great outcomes for your children.

Our bi-cultural education programme is second to none and we work continuously to further enhance it. Each teacher is responsible for observing a small number of children and developing a tailored program to extend upon the interests of each child. We also have shared learning experiences including mat times and excursions that build social competence as well as a semi-structured programme for our 4-year-olds to help them prepare for school.

In addition, we have excellent staff to children ratios, well above of Ministry of Education requirements. We usually operate with 1 staff member for every 3-4 babies and 1 staff member for every 6 preschoolers.

Finally, our charges are very attractive. You can book for just the hours you require rather than being limited to fixed sessions and we will work with you to make sure you get any assistance from WINZ (or other funding agencies) to minimise your total costs.

What benefits do we offer your child?

Partnership with parents

We aim to create a positive partnership with parents to deliver the best possible education outcomes for your child. In summary, our aim is to:

  • Provide excellent care and education for your children
  • Always have the best interests of the child at heart, and
  • Always be good to deal with.

Babies

Our childcare unit offers infants and toddlers a nurturing, secure and spacious environment to grow and learn. During their time with us your child will be given an abundance of learning opportunities with both child and educator initiated experiences and activities, as well as spontaneous and planned outings. Our centre is staffed by educators who share a common goal of helping individuals reach their full potential at their own pace.

Children bring their own milk/formula, snacks and lunch, though we do employ a team member to help with meal times and we can heat food for your child. You will need to supply at least two sets of clothing for your child daily.

We communicate and consult with parents through a daily form until your child is 26 months old. We always try to catch up with you for a daily chat to discuss your child, what they have been doing for that day and any requirements that they may have.

Preschool

Our Preschool caters for children aged between 2 and 5 years old.

We provide a child-initiated learning environment, which is designed to equip your child with the skills that help them in their development toward the new entrant educational system. We have a very good rapport with local schools and they often comment on how well our children settle and progress throughout their schooling. As part of creating a smooth transition to school, we have a very strong, play-based programme for our 4-year-olds that builds on the core skills of literacy and numeracy in a way that engages the children and builds their desire to learn more.

We provide a child-centred learning programme based on your child’s interests, designed to encourage your child to be a confident and competent learner. Children experience opportunities for local excursions and current community events. The children are offered other spontaneous and planned experiences throughout the day, plus they are encouraged to make their own choices and have a voice in what they would like to do. Educators follow and extend on the children’s interests.

Children in this unit are encouraged to become independent with a range of self-help and self-care skills, which enable them to grow up to be self-motivated learners. We have numerous play spaces both indoors and outdoors as you can see in our photo gallery. We also have a shaded, barked, area that is both challenging but also safe and age-appropriate for the children

Our children enjoy their carpentry, using real tools at our carpentry table. The shed is a key part of centre life. It is where children come together three times a day for mat times, waiata and shared learning.  The shed can comfortably hold 60 people and it is also the room we use for any preschoolers who need to sleep during the afternoon.
